This is an essay I wrote last year about Easter. It's time to ponder the meaning and blessing of Easter--the fulcrum of Christianity. Without the Resurrection our faith is worth no more than any pagan religious system.
I love Easter. I'll have to admit that when I was a kid I hated the frilly dresses in pastels and the little boys looked so stiff and unnatural in their suits. The lilies made my head hurt and my nose run. Plus, they looked like something my Grandmother would like. The long, boring cantatas and the annoying songs seemed to drone on and on. I'd kick my legs while I sat in the pew wondering when this would all be over.
But Easter has taken on a whole new meaning for me. The tradition of pretty clothes for Easter indicates that this is a SPECIAL day. The clusters of lilies trumpet the news that the God we serve could not be trapped in a grave. It's not even a chore to make it to the Easter Sunrise service!
Each song echoes the good news of hope and of a Friend who is talking to the Father on our behalf at this very moment.
It is THE most important holiday for Christians. If Jesus had never risen from the dead we would have nothing more than the millions of people who worship dead people or objects. No other religion can accurately claim that their leader conquered death and hell.
I hope you have a blessed Easter as you ponder the love of a Friend who freely gave all. His gift makes it possible for us to enter frequently, yes, even LIVE in His presence and call Him Abba, Dad. Wow!
Our God is an AWESOME God. Happy Easter!
