Busy life...

Things have been going at a breakneck pace around here lately. Our 17 year-old friend, Elise, has moved in with us full-time now. So we (with the wonderful help of some church friends) have painted a bedroom and put up wallpaper border and rearranged everything for her to be comfy here in her new home.

Meanwhile, we decided to paint the other guest room as well so the queen size mattress and box springs are still sitting in the hallway. We plan to paint tonight and tomorrow. We had a difficult time deciding what color to paint it. We thought about painting it blue/green to go with the lodge/fishing theme border we have. Then we thought about a "neutral" kids's theme--we are foster parents and have kids in our home occasionally. We are also considering adoption.

So, after discussing and searching and thinking. We decided to paint it the color of the rest of the house (light tan) and no border then we can put the decor in it that the occasion demands. The nice thing is, we have a lot of paint left over from the last paint job in the living room.

Our church camp starts here in Troy a week from today. We are trying something new this year, we are having a teen service in the mornings. We have never (at least as far back as I can remember) had any service for the teens. I'm excited about it and nervous, too. Rev. Chad Snider has agreed to come for Wed-Sat services. Now I need to find speakers for the other days. Please help us pray for just the right speakers and for the kids--some will be at camp with their families, some from our community. I wish I could take off work to be there but I just can't. I will be off on the weekends and on Memorial Day so that will be better than nothing. So, if any of you are passing through this direction and wish to have a speaking engagement...

Elise's awards banquet at school is tonight so Bob and I are going to that in a little while. She is a good student and is respected by her peers and her teachers. I hope to have pictures to share. She is gone now to have Crystal do her hair. The theme is Southern Belle/Colonial. It should be a fun evening!

Next week is hopping with activity, too. Liz and Darrell are coming on Tuesday evening; more family on Wed and/or Thurs. Mom, Dad and Michael will be here for the weekend. Mom and Dad are coming to help me get a grip on the runaway basement. I think I see a garage sale in my future!

I love reading everyone's blogs. I don't always post comments but I check most of the blogs on my list at least twice a week.

I just read an article today about delighting yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Sometimes when we don't get what we "want" we think God hasn't kept His promises. But what is it we REALLY want? This writer said it was "peace with God." That hit the nail on the head for me. Even though God hasn't granted me all the wishes on my list, He has granted me so much MORE! His Spirit to guide me, a relationship with Him that is as real as my relationship with my parents, husband, siblings or friends, His unconditional love that allows me to be honest and open before Him and not be ashamed, peace, hope, love. Wow!! That really is "more than we can ask or think"--isn't it??

You said it, girl - WAY more! Your blog design is so happy, by the way.

Someday I want to pick your brain a little about maintaining a salt water aquarium. (You do still do that, don't you?) We have awesome memories of snorkeling in the Caymans and seeing the saltwater wildlife - and we love having fish - but I'm not sure that qualifies me for such an ambitious endeavor! I'm lucky if I get my kids fed, much less a hundred gallons of exotic sea creatures. But we are very curious about what's involved. Maybe I'll email you with some questions after the dust settles around here (literally!).
