The Ol' Maytags Aren't What They Used To Be...

We bought a new Maytag washer and dryer set a few years ago anticipating many (10-15) years of trouble free use. After all, Maytag has a great reputation...Well...let's just say, we are shopping for a washer as of today, only about 4 1/2 years later... and we paid the repairman $80 to tell us it was beyond repair. Grrrrr.....

The repairman suggested we go with a Whirlpool washer. Never would have guessed it. So for all you fellow bloggers out there who are in the market for major appliances (Angie, that's you!) stay away from Maytag. The consumer reviews I have been reading lately are agreeing with the repairman and with this experience.

I was hoping to replace the fridge then the dishwasher next...oh, well...

Thankfully, there is nothing more catastrophic going on at our house. The freezer was inadvertently defrosted while we were out of town and the power strip to the aquarium was tripped off by a storm so that the pump and heater were off for 12-18 hours. The freezer didn't have much in it of any value. Most of the fish and corals survived the chill of 68 degrees--still waiting to see if everything remains healthy after the temperature swing.

Anyway, if you are still reading this, I consider you a true friend! What a boring blog!

I told my Grandmother about our blogs. I gave her the address so the activity director at the assisted living place can help her find them. So, Grandmother, I hope something has worked out so you can read all the mundane minutiae of our lives! Love you lots!

I've heard lots of bad things about Maytags. I wish I could find another Kenmore. That old washer is probably older than me. I'm pretty sure it crossed the Red Sea with Moses, but it's still running--kinda! (Wish I could say the same for the dryer...)

Shar,
Thought I'd chime in on this one(*grin*). All of our appliances are Whirlpool. Have been very happy with them! Mom and Dad bought our washer and dryer for our wedding gift 10 years ago... they are still going strong! We purchased a Whirlpool frig in 2002 when we moved here and the home already had Whirlpool dishwasher, microwave and stove. Our rental in Rolla has Whirlpool appliances as well. No complaints! --Kristi Stricker

Hey Shar,
Sorry about the washer. Our old things are still plugging along.

That is nice of you to think about Grandmother. I have thought before she needs a computer but my parents vetoed that one! Welsey's Grandma Peterson is in her 80's and is pretty good on the computer, she has a digital camera, scanner, she scans in old pictures, etc. She even has a Skype account for phone calls!

What about setting up a Google Reader for Grandmother? That way it would only be one website she would have to go to and it would all be on one page? Just thought that may be easier. You could even set it up at home and just let the activity director know the account info. Just a thought!!

Sorry to hear about the passing of your washer...I know that can be a real trial. I'm glad your aquarium seems to be doing well...I really enjoy seeing the pictures.

Sunshine,

I love reading your blog...not boring at all! Sorry about the washer. They're still running the "bored Maytag man" commercials by the way. We bought Maytag a few years ago. They are still running but we weren't as impressed w/ them as we thought we would be. Should have read the reviews...
