MOLD!!!!!!

I'm relieved, frustrated, happy and sick--all at the same time. Today was my regular day off--it was a good thing because the sinus infection I have been fighting was worse than ever.

I have chronic/recurring sinus infections which had been well controlled after sinus surgery in 2001. Last summer they started getting more frequent until lately the infections have been almost constant. I finally gave in and called the Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist . He was gracious enough to work me in today.

After I made the appointment, I decided to once again do some research about possible causes and treatments to try to figure out a way to not have to take antibiotics all the time. I have done this many times over the years and have gleaned little more knowledge than I already had.

HOWEVER, today, one of the first sites I read talked about mold growing in Select Comfort beds causing sinusitis. Ah-ha! A light bulb went off in my little congested head. I unzipped the mattress of our Select Comfort bed and guess what I found...black, ugly MOLD!

We bought the bed from a friend of mine about a year ago--we didn't notice any mold then. A couple months later is when my sinus issues began to get worse...the puzzle is starting to come together. I called the customer service people and it looks like we may be able to get replacement parts. The lady said that they treat the mattresses with an anti-microbial now to prevent the mold.

We love our California King Select Comfort and don't want to have to give it up.
  • So, I'm relieved to know the probable source of my recurring sinus infections,
  • frustrated to have to jump through Select Comfort's Customer Service hoops,
  • happy that I'm on the path to feeling better, and
  • sick with a nasty sinus infection that has been getting progressively worse for several weeks--despite my best efforts to live in a blissful state of denial.
I went ahead with the appointment with the ENT. He started me on 12 days of steroids, three weeks of antibiotics and saline irrigation of my sinus (ouch and yuck!) and nasal spray of some sort from now to eternity! Oh well. At least better days are ahead--I hope.

Ick! Mold and sinus infections--two of my least favorite things! Hopefully you can get that mattress replaced really soon!
