Here are some pictures from our aquarium. I don't know all the technical terms for stuff but I will share what I know.

This is Kryptonite--it is hard to grow but this piece has been going to town. It started out as a few "blooms" maybe 5-7 at the most just a few months ago.

This is the Blue Clam. I'm sure there is a more scientific name for it. If you really want to know, you can ask Bob. :-)

The Brown Clam.

This is the newest addition to the tank. It is called a Sea Apple or a Sea Cucumber. The red stripes are sticky and hold it in position.

Our Bubble Tipped Rose anenome split (meaning it reproduced) while we were away. Now we have two. One is at the top left of the picture and the other one is way back in the rock in the center. We have been hoping this would happen for several months. This baby is spoken for but future ones can be sold at the fish store.

Here's a close up of one of the anenomes.

This is either frogspawn or hammerhead coral. Bob's not here to ask. At any rate, it is also healthy and multiplying. The sunburst coral is in the back and closed up. Check out my post in Feb or Mar to see it in full bloom. It likes to come out at night and for feedings.

This is a toad stool.

I call this a green varigated mushroom. You can also see pix of this one in my Feb or Mar posts. It is doing well and you can see a crop of baby mushrooms at the bottomright of the picture.
This is just a sampling of our tank. I counted over 30 different living things in the aquarium the other day.

Shar,
Are these hard to maintain and are they expensive to start? I would LOVE to have a salt water tank...I love sea life and enjoyed studying about all these interesting creatures :) Maybe in my new house.... :)Your tank is awesome!!!
Dear Vicki (and other curious minds)--
I am not the best one to ask these questions. The aquarium is "Bob's Baby." I don't touch anything. It's just easier and better if one person takes care of all of it. I will pitch in if he needs extra hands, etc. Bob is constantly aware of the tank and keeps an eye on the temperature, fish behavior, water clarity, etc. He does this almost without thinking about it. We have been gone for a week or more at a time recently and his mom checked the tank daily or every other day and the tank was fine.
Expense? Well....this is our hobby. We don't have boats or four wheelers or a lot of other money-draining hobbies. This is a hobby we both enjoy. It still hurts my pocket book when we go to the fish store. Once you find a network of friends, you can share stuff and information and that helps a lot. But the fish are expensive. Mom has a sw tank, too. We feel sorry for her because she is so far away from other hobbyists and from sw stores.
We just got a new (used) tank for her. A couple was getting ready to move to a horse farm and were going to give up their sw tank. We bought it all 135 gal, nice fish, rock, etc for $500. We went there and tore it down and moved it. (this is about the 4th tank we have moved like this) That was an awesome deal. We set it up at Arthur and JEssica's house for a while and will move it to Mom's over Labor Day. A deal like this is pretty rare.
If you hook up with a good mentor it will save you a lot of money.
Bob goes to www.reefcentral.com and asks questions and looks for deals. That's where we found Mom's new tank. Mom and Bob frequently order livestock, yes livestock as in shrimp, crabs, and fish!) from a company called "Doctors Foster and Smith" or something like that. If we lived closer together they would combine their orders to save on shipping.
LEt me know what other questions you have and I will pick Bob's brain for the answers. Thanks for checking my blog!
That is so totally cool!
Chad wants to see a picture of the entire aquarium. =)
Those are awesome!!!!
Levit
How neat and exotic! Cool pics. You will have to post more in the future to keep us update on their "reproduction".
Thanks for the comments. Aimee, I have several more pix to post. I will try to get to them soon and include one of the entire tank. See ya!
